Tales from Frewyn Volume 2 eBook Michelle Franklin

This is another beautifully written and illustrated addition into the series about the Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu. Michelle Franklin certainly knows how to entertain the reader and build characters. With this edition full of short stories, the world Michelle has created evolves and causes the reader to want more.

The short stories are hilarious. Every story has you rolling around the floor laughing at the antics. They involve the Commander, the Den Asaan Rautu and his brothers, Unghaahi, Otenohi and Obhantaa Leraa and his mate Kai Linaa.

All the short stories are varied in their subjects, but a majority of them are regarding Den Asaan Rautu's considerable appetite for food and chocolate in particular. A couple of my favourites would be the Raisin Cake and Make-outs.

Quote from Make-outs at 63% location 2271:

"As the young man watched, he notices the woman in his arms grew vastly intrigued with the giant's attentive display. She eagerly watched with unflinching looks, studying the ravening motions of his mouth and eager gropes of his powerful hands."

The way Den Asaan Rautu is trying to teach the young man by demonstrating how to win the affections of his woman was hilarious and had me laughing for ages.

This is a wonderful addition to the series and I can't wait for the next installment. Michelle Franklin has the perfect balance of humour, romance and drama to allow the reader to follow along easily and fall in love with the characters. ~Katie Turner (The Kindle Book Review)

Tales from Frewyn Volume 2 eBook Michelle Franklin Reviews

Delightful! That is my review summary in a nutshell. I love slipping away from reality and into Michelle Franklin's world of mischievous, witty and endearing characters. In this instance, the animals of the series have their moment to shine in the nine short stories brought together in this collection.

The first story 'Ode to Cluck' tells the tale of a romantically inclined rooster who would rather woo the hens in his yard that get straight down to business and he gets some help from his human friends Beryn and Lochan.

'New Life on the Farm' continues with a second tale involving the Frewyn farmers, Beryn and Lochan, who are joined by other Donnegal family members, Cathal who is Beryn's new stallion and Moraig his mare. The poor mistreated stallion has finally found a home and observes as first pigs are born, sheep are sheared, and Moraig is taught manners.

Next was a cutie about a little boy named Paudrig who gets in a contest of wills with a Longhorn named Tuatha so that Paudrig can show off his warrior skills in 'Paudrig vs. Tuatha'.

'Secret Life of Mr. Craw' reunited me with one of my favorite Haanta couples, Khantara and Anelta when Mr. Craw pauses on his mission of delivering messages to take rest and shelter with Khantara. The gull reminisces of losing his mate, trying to find her and then determining that he is more than comforted by his new home in Frewyn serving Rautu.

Poor Kai Linaa is beside herself in 'The Butterfly' when she thinks her careless action might have killed him. In the presence of all her friends and neighbors, she is able to see that her pretty friend has survived and nobody wants to tell her that the butterfly is one of the most poisonous creatures on the island.

Next, comes a two part tale called 'A Legacy Left' involving a determined family of immigrant mice who petition Janir the captain of a royal Lucentian ship to take them with him to the Haanta islands. Kai Linaa along with Khantara and Leraa are there to make them welcome to both the island and to life as the newest Haantas. The second half of the tale is some time after the first when the first generation of mice start to die off and Kai Linaa must accept the cycle of life with the help of all her friends including a reunion with King Alasdair, the Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu.

The final story is also a two parter entitled 'The Rat'. This would be my favorite in the book as it explores first everyone's reaction to the rat being on the premises. Then it moves to King Alasdair's terror of the rodent along with his amusing way to wait out the removal of it. Finally the showdown between Rautu and the rat after he amuses himself by making the irascible Martje call in 'Monster' for his help to deal with the infestation once and for all. And bully for Rautu for negotiating a lovely bit of chocolate out of the deal.

So put together, this was a series of enjoyable tales bringing together the regular characters from the series along with several of their animals. I recommend that it be read in order behind the other already published books 'The Commander and the Den Asaan Rautu', 'Tales From Frewyn V. 1' and 'Khantara' to get optimum enjoyment, but I suppose it can be read without them in a pinch.

My thanks to Paper Crane Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review thoughts.
Nice collection of fantasy stories. Some are funny, like the one about the giant debating whether or not he should eat chocolate from the floor, and some are more romantic but not overly so. All around enjoyable for a good price. Would by more by this author.
I have been reading Haanta series books & stories for a long time now, and I seriously couldn't wait for this book to be published!! I LOVE the idea of funny and romatic stories describing situations from main characters' everyday life ) Even if you are a hero of Frewyn,a famous woman warrior who won a war against Galleisian army having your scowling and chocolate loving giant by your side - there is always everyday life, and your mail can still not get delivered on time , you can still catch a cold or have to deal with a hungry giant wanting all the sweets for himself ^^
The stories are great but the characters are the best part of it, I totally love them all!!!! - intriguing and funny, though each of them very unigue with his/her own background story that often determines their behavior D it's just impossible not to like them straight away D
Even if you don't know the series though, all the stories have introductions and everything you may not know about the characters or Frewyn customs is explained - so not to worry D
If you love romance and fantasy and chocolate and giants, warriors and elves and funny stories that will make you smile - this is a must read D
Michelle Franklin is my favorite romantic fantasy author and I seriously cannot wait for the rest of the series to be published !!
